WA's Career Development Centre to be exported

Western Australia's Career Development Centre, which provides a one-stop-shop for career advice and development, has been such a success that the concept looks set to be adopted by other States.
Education and Training Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich said a three-month feasibility study into establishing a centre similar to WA's was being undertaken by the South Australian Government. The Federal Government was also interested in copying the concept.
"Officers from the Federal Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) reported that the Career Development Centre provided an excellent model of co-operation between governments and could form the basis for centres in other States," Ms Ravlich said.
"Representatives from South Australia set up a three-month trial of a similar one-stop-shop in Adelaide after visiting WA's Career Development Centre."
The Minister said the centre, which she officially opened in August, brought the former Training Info Centre, TAFEWA Admissions Centre and Overseas Qualifications Unit together.
"Previously, people had to go to three difference locations to get advice; now it is conveniently located under the one roof," she said.
"Recently, a leading academic in career guidance - Professor Tony Watts OBE - visited the centre and then said in his keynote address to a careers summit in Kwinana that it was as close to his vision for an ideal career centre as he had seen anywhere in the world.
"Professor Watts said he was impressed by the co-location arrangements, the centre's focus on schools, post-secondary education, industry and skills shortage."
Ms Ravlich said the Career Development Centre was part of the State Government's strategy to meet the current high skills demand.
