Western Australia's unemployment has remained at an historic low today - this rate, not seen since the 1970s, cementing the State's place as the strongest labour market in Australia.
Employment Protection Minister Michelle Roberts welcomed Australian Bureau of Statistics figures showing the State's unemployment rate at just 2.7 per cent in April, the lowest in the nation.
The national unemployment rate for April was 4.4 per cent.
"WA has again broken the three per cent barrier which confirms the strong downwards trend enjoyed in recent months," Mrs Roberts said.
"These exceptionally robust labour market conditions have not been seen for more than a generation.
"Today's figures vindicate WA's reputation as the powerhouse economy of Australia, and a great place to work and live in."
The Minister said unemployment rates this low had not been experienced since the monthly data series, Labour Force, commenced in 1978.
Mrs Roberts also highlighted WA's impressive youth unemployment rate of 8.8 per cent, which was half the national rate in April.
"The Government is committed to providing opportunities for the youth of today to fulfil their goals and is investing heavily in infrastructure and skills development, to ensure that future job opportunities continue to be offered," she said.
"These latest figures provide further evidence of just how good the jobs market is for young people today, and the exciting range of careers future generations can look forward to.
"There is nothing more satisfying than seeing record numbers of Western Australians finding work."
