Western Australia's Turquoise Coast showcased to the world by new book

A new book exploring the attractions, wildlife and marine environment of the Turquoise Coast in the State's Mid-West was launched this week by Environment Minister Mark McGowan.
The book - The Turquoise Coast - showcases the Pinnacles in Nambung National Park, the area's wealth of wildflowers and caves, Jurien Bay Marine Park and the 36 islands grouped into 12 island nature reserves between Lancelin and the Beagle Islands north of Leeman.
Mr McGowan said the publication, which also included the towns and landforms of the region, was a valuable resource.
"The Turquoise Coast stretches from Lancelin to Leeman and is one of the most biologically diverse areas in WA," he said.
"This book is not only a very useful guide for exploring and understanding the terrestrial and marine environment of the region, it also provides a window to the area for those people who cannot experience it first-hand.
"Part of the book's appeal is in the many large, attractive photographs and the easy-to-read titles and text, which will make it a real treasure for visitors who want to take memories of the WA coast away with them."
Published by the Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) in conjunction with authors Ann Storrie, Sue Morrison and Peter Morrison, The Turquoise Coast is a substantial, 128-page, full-colour publication which took several years to produce, involving an estimated 10 field trips over the course of two years.
The concept was first suggested to the three authors by local nature-based tourism operator Ian Styles.
Ann Storrie and Sue Morrison have also co-written The Marine Life of Ningaloo Marine Park and Coral Bay in 1998, also in conjunction with CALM, and The Wonders of Western Waters in 1990.
A publication in 2003, Beneath Busselton Jetty, brought the three authors together for the first time.
"There is no doubt that years of collaboration and research have resulted in a wonderful book that will be sought after and treasured by scientists, locals and people who just love the area," Mr McGowan said.
"Collectively, the four books are important in raising awareness among the public about the nature conservation values of the marine environment and its underwater inhabitants."
The Turquoise Coast was launched by the Minister during a two-day visit to the region incorporating Jurien Bay, Nambung National Park, Dandaragan Shire, Lesueur National Park, Muggon Station and Kalbarri.
