Deputy Premier Eric Ripper has asked all Western Australians to take time to reflect on the second anniversary of the Boxing Day tsunami.
Mr Ripper said that the 2004 tsunami had a devastating impact on countries throughout the Indian Ocean rim and affected families across the world.
"It was a terrible and tragic day that cost many thousands of lives and touched our community at all levels," he said.
To commemorate the second anniversary this Boxing Day, Mr Ripper, who will be Acting Premier, will be tossing a floral tribute into the ocean at City Beach at 8.59am (8.59am WA time was the moment the earthquake struck off Sumatra).
"Members of the public and community leaders are welcome to join me on Tuesday morning. But if that is not possible, I urge Western Australians to reflect on this tragic event in a way they see fit," he said.
