Budget delivers cost-of-living relief to Western Australian families
- Cook Labor Government delivering more than $1 billion in cost-of-living relief in the State Budget 2026-27
- $100 Fuel Support Payment for every eligible Western Australian driver's licence holder
- Third round of the WA Student Assistance Payment to support more than 500,000 students
- Targetted cost-of-living support for families, commuters, carers, renters, students, regional communities, and vulnerable Western Australians
The Cook Labor Government will deliver more than $1 billion in cost-of-living support for Western Australian families this year, including a new $100 Fuel Support Payment to assist drivers with the rise in fuel costs.
The State Budget 2026-27 will include a suite of cost-of-living support measures, including a third round of the WA Student Assistance Payment, stamp duty relief for first home buyers, a new Carers Gold Card, and free public transport initiatives.
This package will see families with two children receive more than $2,100 a year, and up to $3,600 for families with two children in concessions in total assistance.
The Budget will deliver real relief to those who need it most and will include assistance for families, commuters, renters, carers, regional communities, and vulnerable Western Australians.
The State Budget 2026-27 budget will deliver cost-of-living measures that will support WA households:
- $198 million for the Fuel Support Payment, providing a $100 payment to all Western Australians with a valid driver's licence via the ServiceWA app;
- $90 million to deliver a third round of the WA Student Assistance Payment ($150 per primary and kindergarten student and $250 per secondary student) via the ServiceWA app;
- $208.1 million in stamp duty relief for first home buyers;
- $124 million to continue low-fee and fee-free TAFE in 2027;
- $51.6 million for the Passenger Transport Subsidy Scheme;
- $51 million for energy bill relief measures, including the Energy Assistance Payment, Dependent Child Rebate, Air Conditioning Allowance, and Energy Ahead program;
- $33.7 million to make free Sunday travel permanent across the public transport network;
- $36.4 million to continue free public transport for school students;
- half price Transwa fares;
- $33.1 million towards the nationally co-ordinated fuel excise cut, saving households 32 cents per litre on fuel for three months;
- $19.1 million for free flu vaccines, FluMist;
- $13.5 million to extend the WA Rent Relief Program;
- $6 million for the Regional Airfare Zone Cap Scheme;
- $5.5 million to extend the $300 KidSport vouchers; and
- $1.5 million for the low-income pet sterilisation program.
The Budget also delivers targeted support for foster carers and grandcarers, recognising the vital role they play in our community. This support includes:
- $14.5 million to establish a new Foster Carer and Grand Carer Gold Card, alongside $377 in energy bill relief;
- $23.7 million to increase foster carer subsidy rates by 10 per cent and expand supports; and
- $6.1 million to increase base funding for the Grandcarers Support Scheme and to continue the grandcarers cost-of-living payment.
The State Budget 2026-27 builds on more than $4 billion in additional cost-of-living support for households and small businesses delivered by the State Labor Government since 2017.
