The Cook Labor Government will invest $32 million to expand the Newman Light Industrial Area, boosting economic growth in the region.

The investment as part of the 2026-27 State Budget will deliver 16 industrial lots, continuing the government's focus on creating jobs.

Significant work has already been undertaken by DevelopmentWA including planning, design and approvals.

The delivery of these lots recognises the key role Newman plays in supporting the resource industry in the East Pilbara, which plays a central part in Western Australia continuing to have the strongest economy in the nation.

The lots, which will be delivered through DevelopmentWA, are set to service a broad range of industries including mining, logistics, construction and energy activities.

The lots will provide an opportunity for existing businesses to expand and attract new businesses to the area.

The investment in this year's State Budget will fund civil works, utility connections and road works.

Comments attributed to Planning and Lands Minister John Carey:

"The Cook Labor Government understands that high development costs in remote towns makes the delivery of additional industrial lots more challenging, and this significant investment meets that challenge - providing more job opportunities in Newman.

"We're continuing to work with local businesses and industry to grow regional centres, which power the State's economy."

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:

"This investment means more opportunities for existing businesses to expand and for new businesses to come to Newman.

"The Cook Labor Government has listened to industry and is making a substantial investment in the future of Newman as a key economic hub in the Pilbara."

Comments attributed to Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:

"I have strongly advocated for government investment to expand the Newman Light Industrial Area and it's great to see this $32 million investment delivered in this year's State Budget.

"Across the Pilbara, the Cook Labor Government is focused on more jobs, more housing and upgrading health facilities."
