The Cook Labor Government
is getting on with the job of building the health infrastructure Western Australia
needs, with construction now underway on the new Paraburdoo Hospital.
Early works have
commenced on site, with the demolition of the northern hospital block,
construction of the new hospital building ground pad, and the establishment of
temporary parking facilities.
Once works are completed,
the new hospital will feature a new emergency department, a two-bed short stay
unit, and integrated primary and community care services, including a private
GP clinic.
The facility will also
deliver a flexible model of care, enabling patients to access a range of
short-stay inpatient services, assessment, treatment, and ongoing care closer
to home, reducing the need to travel for care.
The new hospital will be
built on the existing health service site, with access to the current hospital
maintained throughout construction to ensure continuity of care for the local
community.
Scheduled for completion
in 2028, the new facility will provide modern healthcare services closer to
home and meet the growing needs of Paraburdoo.
Westen Australia based
builder, Cooper & Oxley, has been appointed to deliver works for the
Paraburdoo Hospital under an Early Contractor Involvement procurement process.
The Paraburdoo Hospital
project, delivered in partnership with Rio Tinto, includes a $20 million
contribution through Rio Tinto's $250 million commitment to the government's
Resources Community Investment Initiative.
The project forms part of
the Cook Labor Government's record $5.5 billion investment in health
infrastructure to significantly boost capacity and ensure that every Western
Australian deserves access to high-quality healthcare, no matter where they
live.
