EOI opens to secure long-term energy supply in the Pilbara
- Expressions of interest open to supply future power needs of the Pilbara
- Process supports ongoing prosperity of the region and Pilbara Energy Transition Plan
- Opportunity for local industry to participate in WA's energy transition
The Cook Government is taking the next step in delivering the Pilbara's clean energy transition, with Horizon Power opening expressions of interest (EOI) to secure the region's future power supply.
Horizon Power is calling for suitably qualified Independent Power Producers to present proposals to supply power from 2030.
The EOI invites proposals from a broad range of industry participants, including those with innovative renewable energy solutions and partnerships with Traditional Owner groups.
Respondents with renewable energy projects and clear pathways to land access - including Traditional Owner groups - will be viewed favourably.
By broadening participation, this process will provide greater flexibility to Horizon Power's generation procurement in the Pilbara and will optimise opportunities for local suppliers, including Traditional Owner-led projects, to participate in the Pilbara's energy future.
Procurement will be delivered in accordance with the recent WA Industry Participation Strategy Ministerial Direction to energy Government Trading Enterprises.
The EOI builds on the work already being undertaken as part of the Pilbara Energy Transition Plan, which will see the private sector develop common user transmission infrastructure to deliver renewable energy to heavy industry across the Pilbara.
The EOI is open until the end of February 2026. For more information, visit: Tenders WA.
