Grants support safer, mentally healthy workplaces across WA

The Cook Labor Government has announced eight successful projects through Stage One of the Mentally Healthy Workplaces Grant Program, as part of its ongoing commitment to protect Western Australian workers from psychosocial risk and build safer and healthier workplaces.

The Cook Labor Government has announced eight successful projects through Stage One of the Mentally Healthy Workplaces Grant Program, as part of its ongoing commitment to protect Western Australian workers from psychosocial risk and build safer and healthier workplaces.

The $4 million program invests $2 million in each stage, first building awareness and capability to identify and assess psychosocial hazards, then supporting practical tools and strategies to address them.

The projects will support workers across health, community services, creative industries, hospitality, the public sector, and rail and transport.

Successful Stage One recipients are:

  • Reflectal Pty Ltd - short mobile learning, designed to easily fit into clinical shifts;
  • Community Skills WA - practical tools and a State-wide online platform to support frontline community service workers dealing with burnout and the impacts of trauma;
  • For A Mate, trading as Hey Mate - an easy-to-use toolkit and hazard assessment tools for creative workplaces, including touring and festival environments;
  • Enfranchise Pty Ltd - a hazard toolkit designed to be culturally relevant for Aboriginal community-controlled organisations;
  • Healthy Mind Menu Inc - practical venue starter packs and industry specific resources for hospitality workplaces, informed by lived experience of burnout and customer aggression;
  • Community and Public Sector Union/Civil Service Association - applied training and coaching for public sector workers and health and safety representatives;
  • The University of Western Australia - practical toolkit to help middle managers identify and assess psychosocial hazards; and
  • Rail and Transport Training Ltd - digital learning and workshops for safety critical rail and transport workplaces across the State developed in consultation with the Rail, Tram and Bus Union.

Stage Two application and delivery dates will be announced in early 2027.

"From frontline health workers to regional hospitality venues, remote community organisations, rail and transport crews, and public sector workplaces, these grants will reach workers across the State in sectors facing some of the most significant psychosocial risks.

"These resources will remain freely available beyond the life of the grants, so the benefits of this investment will continue long after the projects are complete."
