It's Game on, Girls as second funding round kicks off

- Initiative encouraging teenage girls' participation in sport
- Grants to help WA clubs develop practical initiatives and create positive sport experiences for girls aged 13-17
- Delivers on Cook Labor Government commitment to support girls' participation in sport and build inclusive communities
The Cook Labor Government is doubling down on its efforts to keep more young girls and women in community sport, with a second round of Game on, Girls grants opening today.
Following the success of the first round of Game On, Girls grants, a further $1.1 million will be made available to help more clubs create opportunities for teenage girls to participate in sport.
Game on, Girls is designed to boost participation, retention and engagement of girls aged 13-17 in club-based sport through tailored, capacity-building support for clubs.
The Game on, Girls program responds to research findings that there is a significant decline in sport participation among girls during the teenage years, from 83 per cent at age 9 to as low as 23 per cent by age 15.
The first round released earlier this year provided funding to 197 clubs across Western Australia.
Clubs can apply for grants of up to $5,000 to deliver initiatives that encourage girls to stay active, build confidence and stay connected through community sport.
Game on, Girls supports metropolitan, regional and remote Western Australia clubs to develop practical initiatives that reduce participation barriers and create positive experiences for young athletes, coaches, volunteers and leaders.
Applications for the next round of Game On, Girls grants are now open. Clubs can apply through the Game on, Girls web page.
Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Local clubs have such an important role to play in helping girls feel
welcome, supported and encouraged to keep playing sport throughout their teen
years.
"This funding boost from the Cook Labor Government will help even more clubs deliver tailored programs and initiatives so girls can continue to experience the many benefits that come with being part of a sporting community.
"We've already had a great response to this program, which shows our sporting clubs are committed to helping young women stay involved in sport so they can keep building confidence, develop their skills and stay active."
