The Cook Labor Government has delivered a 2025 Election
Commitment, with the official opening of Montague Hillary Park playspace in
Leeming.
The project was one of five playgrounds across Perth to benefit
from a combined $490,000 in upgrades.
The City of Melville received $100,000 in funding, which
was used to upgrade the playground, add new nature-play facilities, and install
new seating and greenery.
This follows the opening of Esplanade Park in Mount
Pleasant in May. That project, which converted a parking lot into a new park
with mature trees and a modern play structure, was made possible through a
$150,000 Cook Labor Government Election Commitment and $465,852 funding from
Lotterywest.
Additional playgrounds in the City of Kwinana, City of
Joondalup, and City of Canning have recently been completed or are in the final
stages.
The City of Kwinana completed $90,000 of works at Sunrise
Estate Playground in Wellard to improve access and enjoyment for children of
all ages. Additions included a multi-play unit with a climbing net to promote
active play, shade sails, and a new footpath connecting the playground to the
picnic and barbeque area for better access.
The City of Joondalup recently installed shade sails at Pinnaroo
Point Beach Park in Hillarys as part of a $50,000 upgrade to the park area,
with additional improvements to be carried out in coming months.
The City of Canning is expected to soon complete $100,000 of
improvements to the Canning Vale Oval Playground, including accessible play
equipment, suitable for a wide range of ages.
This funding is part of the Cook Labor Government's Election Commitment
to support local government and community projects including new playgrounds,
parks, and facilities to encourage more active and inclusive communities.
