The next stage of major works on the Ocean Reef Marina redevelopment, which include construction of Perth's first coastal pool, is kick-starting the next significant stage of this iconic project.

The Cook Government, through DevelopmentWA, today announced the appointment of Georgiou Group Pty Ltd as the preferred contractor for the Stage 1 works, that will pave the way for Ocean Reef Marina to become an iconic new coastal destination for Western Australians and tourists.

The works represent the largest civil construction landscaping program ever undertaken by DevelopmentWA.

A 150-metre family-friendly beach will also be built, with shark net protection, as well as Perth's first coastal pool, forming a central recreational hub that will be a highly sought after destination. The pool is expected to be open to the public in 2026.

The works will deliver additional high-quality public open space, including a pedestrian promenade along the water's edge, play spaces, a scooter park, public amenities including change rooms, toilets, BBQ and shade structures. The play space will be specially designed with a 'Western Rock Lobster' theme as well as a proposed water play area as part of the coastal pool.

The first stage of works also includes the creation of 68 single residential lots and three apartment sites.

Infrastructure services will be extended to the newly created Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and Marine Rescue Whitfords/Marina Managers sites, as well creating associated infrastructure including boat hardstand and parking.

Ocean Reef Marina will ultimately deliver more than 1,000 new residential dwellings, offering a range of housing options including single residential homes and apartments.

It will also offer an array of shopping, dining and entertainment options to residents, visitors and tourists, with up to 12,0000 square metres of retail and commercial floor space, and more than 5 hectares of community space.

Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:

"Ocean Reef Marina is one of the most significant development projects in our State.

"This iconic development will become one of our City's most popular destinations for recreational pursuits and boating, with Perth's first coastal pool, a family beach within the protection of the marina, capacity for up to 550 boat pens, 200 boat stackers, boat ramps and trailer parking.

"Civil works will now begin on Perth's first coastal pool, which will be a significant tourism drawcard for Ocean Reef and Western Australia.

"My Government is investing in this generational project to provide another tourism destination for WA that is like no other, as we work to further diversify the State's economy, and deliver more housing options and public open spaces for the community."

Comments attributed to Lands Minister John Carey:

"Earlier this year the breakwaters were completed in a significant milestone for the transformation of the Ocean Reef Marina.

"The next stage of works has now begun and will include 68 single residential lots and three apartment lots, construction of Western Australia's first coastal pool, a new family-friendly beach, public open spaces and play spaces along with creating new sites for the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and Marine Rescue Whitfords.

"In a boost to the long-term housing supply for Perth, more than 1,000 residential dwellings are planned for the marina precinct across a range of diverse housing types, including homesites, apartments and mixed-use developments.

"This will also be accompanied by up to 12,000 square metres of retail and commercial floor space, as well as more than five hectares of community spaces, providing important amenity and facilitating the activation of the precinct by the local and wider-community.

"Once complete, this world-class coastal development will bring new housing opportunities and diverse amenity and recreation activities - driving tourism along Perth's world-class coastline."
