Hon. Stephen Dawson
Ten Peel projects will share in $1.104 million funding under Round 8 of the Cook Labor Government's Regional Economic Development Grants program.
The RED Grants program is investing $60.85 million over 11 years towards locally driven projects to stimulate job creation and economic growth in the regions.
One successful Peel recipient, Mitchell's Livestock Transport, received $180,000 to establish a livestock trailer fabrication and maintenance workshop.
The funding will enable Mitchell's to fabricate and refurbish livestock trailers and cattle pens and perform major repairs and maintenance on 30 prime mover trucks. The project will create 2.5 full-time jobs within 6 months of project completion and employ one new apprentice or trainee.
Another successful recipient, Mandurah Glass, will use their $180,000 grant towards the purchase and installation of a vertical CNC machine to upgrade glass processing functions required in the processing of glass and glazing products.
The new equipment will automate precision shaping, drilling and edge finishing, reducing outsourcing and manual handling, increasing safety and productivity. The project will create 2 new FTE and 2 apprenticeship or trainee positions within 12 months of project completion and strengthen their ability to service residential and commercial customers.
Also among the group of Round 8 recipients is Expedition Holdings, which has been awarded $59,818 to upgrade their Mandurah facility with upgraded infrastructure, advanced fabrication equipment and improved workflow systems.
The upgrades will increase production capacity, efficiency and product consistency to meet growing national demand for Australian-made aluminium trays and canopies and enable entry into international export markets.
The project will create seven full-time jobs within six months of project completion and secure two new fleet contracts focusing on tier 2 mining and agricultural organisations.
A $98,071 grant will support Boodja Ventures, a 100 per cent Aboriginal-owned and operated enterprise to procure a specialised mobile cuisine unit capable of servicing remote tourism assets and regional events.
The grant will unlock immediate commercial opportunities within the high-growth cultural tourism sector, create sustainable local jobs and increase procurement from regional Aboriginal foragers and producers.
While Waroona-based Drakesbrook Hotel Motel have also been awarded $150,000 to expand their accommodation capacity and diversify its offering through the development of a new caravan and camping area.
The RED grant will be used to install six self contained modular cabin buildings, providing 18 one bedroom accommodation units and construction of a caravan and camping area comprising 15 powered caravan sites and 10 unpowered natural camping sites.
This project will cater to both industry workers and travellers, supporting regional tourism and economic development. The project will generate six new local jobs within six months of project completion, attract additional visitors and provide essential accommodation infrastructure.
Successful projects in Round 8 will not only diversify the Peel economy, but support regional job creation in the manufacturing, tourism, and hospitality sectors.
