State's corruption watchdog Parliamentary Inspector reappointed
- Matthew Zilko SC to stay on as the Parliamentary Inspector for the State's Corruption and Crime Commission for five years
- Former Supreme Court Justice Andrew Beech appointed Acting Parliamentary Inspector
Matthew Zilko SC has been reappointed as Parliamentary Inspector of the Corruption and Crime Commission of Western Australia (CCC).
His second five-year term will run from 17 December 2025 to 16 December 2030.
The Parliamentary Inspector's functions include investigating allegations of misconduct against the CCC and its officers and auditing its operations.
Mr Zilko reports and makes recommendations to Parliament and the Joint Standing Committee on the CCC as well as recommendations to the CCC, agencies, and relevant authorities.
Appointed Senior Counsel in 2001, he has a wealth of experience as a litigator, arbitrator, and mediator.
His legal career spanned four-and-a-half decades including half that period as a barrister prior to being appointed Parliamentary Inspector in 2020.
From 2004 to 2020, Mr Zilko acted as counsel in numerous trials and appeals in civil, commercial, and criminal cases.
Mr Zilko also served as an accredited arbitrator and accredited mediator and conducted hundreds of mediations and arbitrations across a range of legal matters.
The Honourable Andrew Beech SC has been appointed Acting Parliamentary Inspector for the CCC, also commencing 17 December 2025.
Mr Beech was a WA Supreme Court Judge for more than 16 years including six as a Judge of Appeal before retiring from the judiciary in November 2023.
He practised as a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers between 1994 and 2007 in commercial, civil, criminal, and public law matters and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2004.
