Work on South West Advanced Manufacturing Technology Hub
- Work now underway on Cook Labor Government's Advanced Manufacturing Technology Hub in Picton
- Will deliver WA's first advanced manufacturing and renewables hub supporting local jobs
- Infrastructure to support local businesses to deliver components that support energy transition
- Request for Proposal for anchor tenant to be released in July
Work is now underway on the Cook Labor Government's $55 million Advanced Manufacturing Technology Hub (AMTECH) in Picton.
The project will deliver the anchor tenant site at WA's first ever hub for advanced manufacturing, technology and renewable energy, supporting local jobs.
Construction will be overseen by Development WA. The Department of Energy and Economic Diversification will issue a request for proposal for an anchor tenant in July.
The hub will support the growth of advanced manufacturing in Western Australia, helping to diversify the South West economy and position the region to capture new opportunities.
The anchor tenant will work closely with the State, to manufacture the parts needed to support the energy transition away from State-owned coal by 2030.
The Cook Labor Government wants to see local WA workers and apprentices seizing the opportunities of the advanced manufacturing and clean energy transition, which is why hundreds of millions of dollars are being invested into Free TAFE and training opportunities.
This means more pathways for young people to train, secure apprenticeships and build long-term careers closer to home.
Since Clean Energy and Advanced Manufacturing courses were made low fee in 2020, South Regional TAFE has seen an increase in enrolments:
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician enrolments increased by 75 per cent
- Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining) enrolments increased by 59 per cent
