The Cook Government has today unveiled the first designs of Perth Park, Western Australia's premier entertainment and sporting precinct, which will deliver ongoing economic returns for Western Australia.
The designs, which have incorporated community and stakeholder feedback, showcase a major new multipurpose precinct and parkland that will transform the area into a hub for live music, sport, entertainment, and community use.
Leading economics firm ACIL Allen independently prepared the business case which found the project would deliver $61 million in economic activity every year - delivering long-term economic and community value, with an undiscounted benefit-cost ratio of 1.84.
Based on the extensive consultation, the designs include a new multipurpose building, Perth's first dedicated outdoor amphitheatre for up to 12,000 people and a new track that will support a range of uses, including cycling and an annual motorsport street circuit event.
The multi-use building will offer a range of event, function, and meeting spaces, with views overlooking the city, parklands, and multi-use track.
The design also includes two indoor courts with disability sport facilities for basketball, badminton, rugby, and tennis.
A potential new hospitality venue is also being proposed, with an expression of interest process to go live this week seeking private sector investment and operator proposals.
As previously indicated, landscaping will be a key a focus of Perth Park. The designs include up to 150,000 new plants, with tree canopy to be more than doubled across the precinct. A new urban forest will also be included in the south-east of the park.
The extensive greening initiative will transform the site into a vibrant, ecologically rich environment that provides shade, visual amenity, and exciting new space for large-scale festivals for the community and families to enjoy throughout the year.
With a project budget of $217.5 million, the independent business case found Perth Park would deliver a positive economic return for the State, with benefits realised through additional tourism visitation and expenditure, increased business activity to support the delivery of major events hosted at the Park, and value generated to the WA community from the expansion of the State's events calendar.
The ACIL Allen business case has been referred to Infrastructure Western Australia for assessment, prior to works commencing early next year, ahead of the park opening in 2027.
The Cook Government will create Perth Park as Perth's premier sporting and entertainment precinct, including Optus Stadium, the State Tennis Centre, and Burswood Water Sports Centre.
Perth Park is a key election commitment to create a true multipurpose entertainment and sporting precinct, delivering benefits for both the local community and everyday park users as well as boosting the State's capacity to host a range of events.
The alliance of Seymour Whyte, Civmec, and Aurecon has worked closely with the Office of Major Infrastructure Delivery to progress the project's planning and detailed design.
This strong WA-based design and construction team has integrated ideas and feedback from the community consultation and stakeholder engagement process.
Consultation on the designs is now underway. Get the facts, provide feedback, or get questions answered at www.perthpark.wa.gov.au
