- WA Renewable Hydrogen Strategy to be refreshed
after meeting its 2022 targets
The
Cook Government will refresh its Renewable Hydrogen Strategy after successfully
meeting its 2022 goals.
A consultation
paper has now been released for feedback and will be open for four weeks.
Stakeholder
input is critical to maximising the benefits to Western Australia and
supporting the long-term growth of the renewable hydrogen industry.
The WA
Government has committed almost $200 million to grow and support the industry.
The
strategy contained four strategic focus areas for industry: export, remote
application, hydrogen blending in natural gas networks, and transport.
Achievements
from the Renewable Hydrogen Strategy 2022 include:
- approving a project to export renewable hydrogen;
- using renewable hydrogen in one remote location;
- distributing renewable hydrogen in a WA gas
network; and
- making a refuelling facility for hydrogen
vehicles available in WA.
Since
2019, there have been changes in the international environment including
significant global policy shifts in the hydrogen and renewables industries.
The feedback on the
consultation paper will be critical to the updated strategy, which is expected
to be completed later this year.

established itself as a global leader in the emerging renewable hydrogen
industry in less than four years.
"We know renewable
hydrogen has a lead role to play in the energy transition to new technologies,
especially the decarbonisation of heavy industry.

the global renewable hydrogen economy is predicted to grow rapidly.
"The Cook Government is
seeking to build a renewable hydrogen industry which assists in diversifying
and decarbonising the economy, on top of creating jobs for Western
Australians."
