Thousands of elite cyclists are set to race into Perth for the largest participation road cycling event in Australia.

The Cook Government has secured the AusCycling Road National Championships for 2025, 2026 and 2027.

This is the first time the prestigious event has been held in Perth since 1997, and the first time it is being held outside of Victoria in 17 years.

The Championships include three sub-events: a road race, comprising of elite, under 23, para-cycling, masters, club and junior road races; time trials; and a criterium, a bike race consisting of several laps around a closed circuit.

The elite road races will be the feature event of the Championships, showcasing Australia's best professional road cyclists.

All of the races attract Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) points for participants, while the junior, under 23 and para-cycling events are critical for selection in the UCI World Championships, which take place every year in a different international destination.

The event is expected to attract close to 20,000 visitors to Western Australia over the three years of its term in the State, injecting tens of millions of dollars into the local economy.
