The Cook Labor Government has provided $2 million in funding through a Lotterywest grant to the St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies WA) to support families experiencing financial hardship.

The funding provided through Lotterywest supports immediate financial or material support such as food, help with paying utility bills or rent, household goods and budget assistance or financial advice.

The program operates across Perth, as well as in regional and remote Western Australia.

Assistance is provided through the generous work of volunteers, who visit people in their homes or help them in a Vinnies Support Centre.

Collectively, Vinnies WA's crisis and emergency relief program supports more than 30,000 families per year across the State. In 2021-22, the organisation reached over 55,000 people across its programs and services.

Comments attributed to Community Services Minister Sabine Winton:

"The Cook Government understands the impacts of interest rates and inflation are making it challenging for some in the community to make ends meet.

"Supporting WA households is a priority for our Government.

"This additional support will work towards reducing vulnerability and disadvantage across Western Australia.

"Vinnies WA and their incredible volunteers play such an important role in supporting Western Australians through tough times.

"This collaboration means people doing it tough can receive kindness, support, and a pathway for a better future."
