Hon. David Templeman
In a major boost for the international education sector in Western Australia, the Turkish Ministry of Education has granted foreign curriculum equivalence for the Western Australian Kindergarten to Year 12 curriculum.
The Aljazari International School of Science and Technology (AISST) will offer the Western Australian Curriculum and the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) in Türkiye as part of the agreement signed at State Parliament today.
The expansion into the Turkish education market will provide students in Türkiye who complete the WACE a seamless application process for the university or training sector in WA, as well as the opportunity to apply for the Premier's WACE Bursary.
The agreement between the Western Australian Government and AISST follows similar success in July 2023 when WA was granted interim approval to commence the WACE in Pakistan.
Comments attributed to International Education Minister David Templeman:
"The recognition of Western Australia's curriculum by Türkiye and Pakistan is further confirmation of our State's global standing as a world class education provider.
"The Western Australian Government values our relationships with Türkiye and Pakistan and looks forward to welcoming young people from these countries seeking to pursue further studies in WA through the opportunities offered by the WACE.
"The recent expansion of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority's activities into Türkiye and Pakistan affirms Western Australia's significance in the international education market and has the potential to support growth in the number of international students pursuing further studies in WA.
"The Western Australian Government's ongoing financial commitment to the sector will ensure we support those students when they arrive in WA."
Comments attributed to Education Minister Tony Buti:
"Further recognition of the Western Australian curriculum in Türkiye and Pakistan reflects well on the clarity and rigour of the educational opportunities we provide our students from Kindergarten to Year 12, and into further education, training and employment."
"The Western Australian curriculum provides all students with an excellent foundation for their journeys as lifelong learners."
