Eastern Goldfields sports associations will receive $24,500 in State Government grants this week.

Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore said Eastern Goldfields Amateur Athletics was the major beneficiary under the State Government's Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) program.

"A grant of $30,000 was approved to construct clubrooms and an amenities block for Eastern Goldfields Amateur Athletics," Mr Moore said.

With half the project finished the first payment of $22,500 was forwarded by the Minister today.

Earlier this year the Eastern Goldfields Gun Club was granted CSRFF funding of  $21,300 for the building of a clubhouse.

"The grants are designed to ensure that WA maintains the high quality of its sporting and recreation facilities and enhances their accessibility and affordability to the community," Mr Moore said.

"Those seeking CSRFF assistance range from local governments, indoor sport and recreation centres through to individual clubs. The criteria used to grant the funding include economic viability, community need and consultation.

"The CSRFF assistance provides individual projects with funding for one-third of capital works programs.

"Furthermore, in an effort to assist country sport develop, the Government has grants totalling $300,000 each year from the Sports Lottery Fund available.

"These grants are aimed at non-capital expenditure such as travel, coaching and development programs.

"The Esperance Bay Yacht Club has been allocated $1,000 for junior sport development from the Sport Lottery Fund.

"The Goldfields Football League has received $500 to travel to the Great Southern Football Carnival in Lake Grace.  Meanwhile, the Eastern Goldfields Rugby Association has been granted $500 to assist with the introduction of Walla Rugby - a non-contact version of the game played by primary aged children.

"This funding is part of an ongoing Government commitment to encourage participation in sport and recreation which recent surveys show leads to healthier and happier individuals.

"By providing these funds at a community level we are providing facilities and making it easier for people to get involved in a healthy lifestyle."
