$500 grant towards Derby Golf Club travel expenses

The Derby Golf Club is hoping for further success at this year's Regional Golf Championships at Wyndham on October 5.
Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore has approved a grant of $500 to assist with the travel expenses for 16 members of the club to attend the championships.
The annual championships, which began in 1977, see teams from Wyndham, Derby, Kununurra, Broome, and Halls Creek taking part in two competitions - individual and team events.
Mr Moore said the Derby club had had many successes in the 1970s and 1980s, with Dave Priest winning four individual championships.
"It is great to see the club once again striving to re-enter the winner's circle," he said.
"However, there will be stiff competition from the current champions Broome, whose Tony Harrop will be defending his individual title."
Mr Moore praised the enthusiasm of local golfers, who play most of their golf on sand, and their dedication towards the sport.
"With the Ministry's focus on sport in regional areas, such a competition is valuable as we strive to achieve our goals in these areas," he said.
