Conservation of heritage in regional parts of Western Australia will be boosted following the allocation of grants worth more than $68,000 by the State Government.
Heritage Minister Richard Lewis today announced that 19 projects around the State would benefit from the latest round of grants under the Heritage Council of Western Australia's Conservation Incentive Program.
Mr Lewis said 15 of the projects were in regional areas and the majority of the funding would be used to assist the preparation of conservation plans for heritage buildings.
"The conservation plans will identify what is culturally significant in a building and help determine ways to ensure those features are preserved," he said.
"If any development or alterations are proposed in the future, the owners of the building and the architects involved know which areas need to be conserved in order to maintain the structure's heritage value."
The Minister said the plans would also assist in determining which restoration and conservation work is of priority in each building.
"There has been a 12 per cent increase in funds made available as part of the program this year which reflects the State Government's recognition of the importance of heritage conservation," Mr Lewis said.
The grants range from $1,250 for conservation works at the Pioneer Museum in Greenough to $7,500 for a conservation plan to be undertaken on the One Mile Jetty in Carnarvon.
