21/10/95
A total of 6,400 teachers have accepted the State Government's 15 per cent (7.5 +7.5) pay offer.
Announcing the figure today Education Minister Norman Moore said he was very pleased with the number of teachers who had signed-up to accept the Government's generous package.
Mr Moore said 16,300 State school teachers had been offered the package.
"The teachers who have accepted the above-award payments are entitled to receive the increase immediately and it will be backdated to September 1," Mr Moore said.
"These teachers will be performing exactly the same duties as their counterparts who have been given a five per cent increase. This increase will be for six weeks starting October 16 as a result of an Industrial Relations Commission Interim Order.
"Educational improvements which are part of the Government's package will proceed, subject to a grievance procedure.
"Furthermore, the Government is in the process of finalising an agreement with school administrators who represent 2,400 people."
