A new guide has been released to help retrenched timber workers
27/8/99
Employment and Training Minister Graham Kierath has released a guide to help retrenched timber workers.
Chairman of the RFA Consultative Committee Paul Omodei has welcomed the guide, which contains 15 pages of contact information for people who want to find out about employment services, education and training, business support, income support and counselling.
"The guide has been prepared to make sure that workers have a source of direct help and are given as many options as possible when considering future career choices," Mr Kierath said.
"The guide can be used in conjunction with the employment co-ordinators now working in the South-West and an Internet website to help forestry workers with training and re-training, employment resources, Centrelink assistance and other resources."
The website, http://www.wobbleweb.com.au/forest, lists the services available, followed by contact addresses, phone numbers and where appropriate Internet addresses.
The kit was an initiative of the Department of Employment and Training and was conceived as a way to get a vast amount of information to workers as quickly as possible in an easily read, flexible format.
Copies of the kit are available from Jobs South-West in Bunbury and from employment co-ordinators now working in the South-West.
Internet access is available through local telecentres if workers do not have access from home.
