Allocation for Midvale Speed Dome roof repairs
1/6/93
A special allocation of $16,000 has been made by the State Government to fix problems with the leaking roof at the Midvale Speed Dome.
Sport and Recreation Minister Doug Shave said while the liability for the problem was embroiled in litigation, fixing the problem could not be delayed.
"There are a number of major national and international sporting events scheduled for the dome later this year and a leaking roof would place them in jeopardy," Mr Shave said.
"We cannot afford to have our reputation for staging successful sporting events tarnished so I have approved the allocation of the money."
Mr Shave said that despite cost over-runs on the project, the Midvale Speed Dome was one of the best venues of its type in Australia.
Included among the major events scheduled this year for the dome were the national roller skating championships from July 10 to 18 and the junior world cycling championships from September 21 to October 3.
