The Western Australian Government and Hyundai Hopman Cup announced today that the event had been secured for Perth at least until 2002.
Tourism Minister Norman Moore said he was delighted the cup would stay at the Burswood International Resort Casino for a further three years.
"Along with Rally Australia and the Heineken Classic, it is one of Western Australia's flagship events," Mr Moore said.
"It generates terrific economic impact and media coverage for our State.
"Independent research estimated the 1999 Hyundai Hopman Cup had an economic impact of $5.67 million.
"This year, ABC television provided 42 hours of live national coverage with the final attracting record ratings in every Australian capital.
"Internationally, over 40 hours of live coverage was beamed to South Africa and Thailand, while more than 72 million households throughout Asia were able to view 18 hours of coverage.
"According to one of Australia's leading media monitoring agencies, it was the top news item in Australia for the week of the tournament."
Tournament director Paul McNamee said that the 1999 Hyundai Hopman Cup had been the most successful in the event's 11-year history.
"The tournament receives terrific support from the Western Australian public," Mr McNamee said.
"A record crowd of 75,843 watched this year's event, which was won by Australia."
The next Hyundai Hopman Cup starts on January 1, 2000.
