Appointment of three stipendiary magistrates (A/Min)
16/4/96
Acting Attorney General Kevin Prince today announced the appointment of three stipendiary magistrates.
Mr Prince said Executive Council had last week appointed former Children's Court Magistrate Jacqueline Musk as a stipendiary magistrate to sit full-time in Courts of Petty sessions and Local Courts throughout the State.
Timothy Schwass and Stephen Vose were appointed stipendiary magistrates in addition to their Children's Court appointments and would provide support and relief to the Magistrate's Courts as required.
Mr Prince said the appointments would provide better access to the justice system for people subject to Petty Sessions and Local Court hearings.
Mrs Musk was born in Perth in 1944 and admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1971.
She practised as a solicitor with various law firms before being appointed a magistrate in the Children's Court of WA in 1990. She was also secretary to the Barristers' Board of WA from 1982 to 1990.
Mrs Musk was a member of the Parole Board of WA from 1985 to 1995 and a member of the Alcohol Advisory Council in 1994-95.
Mr Schwass was born in New Zealand in 1953 and admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of WA in 1978.
He served as a legal officer with the Department for Community Services for 10 years and was the WA Legal Aid Commission's solicitor in charge of the Kimberley regional office between 1988 and 1990.
He was appointed a magistrate of the Children's Court in 1990.
Mr Vose was born in Perth in 1954 and admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of WA in 1979.
He practised as a barrister and solicitor for the Legal Aid Commission of WA from 1978 to 1980 and was employed by the Aboriginal Legal Service between 1980 and 1990.
He was appointed a magistrate of the Children's Court in April, 1990.
"I congratulate Mrs Musk, Mr Schwass and Mr Vose on their appointments as stipendiary magistrates," Mr Prince said.
