Appointments to Curtin Uni's (Kalgoorlie) inaugural council announced

Appointments to Curtin University Kalgoorlie Campus's inaugural council have been officially announced.
The council includes eight members, appointed by the Minister for Education, who are well-respected in the education, mining and business sectors.
Education Minister Colin Barnett said he was pleased to announce the eight appointed council members following Cabinet's endorsement earlier this week. The council also included elected staff and student representatives and ex-officio members.
The members, appointed for three-year terms, are:
· Mr Richard Tastula as chairperson - present chair of the Interim Council and WA School of Mines Board of Management;
· the Mayor of the City of Kalgoorlie/Boulder - currently Mr Ron Yuryevich;
· the Vice President of the WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy - currently Mr Geoffrey Wedlock;
· Mr Ralph Bower - Esperance business leader, chair of the Esperance Community College Steering Committee and member of the Interim Council;
· Mr Tony O'Neill - resident manager, Kambalda, Western Mining Corporation;
· Ms Pat Leighton - accountant, community leader, former president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, member of Kalgoorlie Council College, WA Schools of Mines Board of Management and Interim Council;
· Ms Carmel McKenzie - lawyer and member of the interim council; and -
· Mr Neil Darby - principal, South Kalgoorlie Primary School.
"The creation of the Curtin University Kalgoorlie Campus has been a significant milestone for education in the Goldfields and Esperance regions," Mr Barnett said.
"I have every confidence that the inaugural council will work closely with the wider community to promote the benefits of the college and make it an educational success."
