The Mayor and current chairman of the Bunbury Water Board, Dr Ernie Manea, is among the six members whose appointment to the new Bunbury Water Board was announced today by Water Resources Minister Roger Nicholls.

The other members of the Board which will take over on July 1 are: . Steven Prosser, owner of the building firm R&M Prosser & Son, whose community service includes seven years on the Bunbury City Council and the Bunbury Water Board and life membership of the Bunbury Volunteer Fire Brigade;

. Robert Nicholson, a registered architect and member of the Institute of Arbitrators who is a Bunbury City Councillor;

. Vernon Haley who had a 44-year career as a local government officer in Collie and Bunbury and whose current activities include being chairman of the Leschenault Inlet Management Authority, and a member of the Rivers and Estuaries Council, the State Town Planning Appeals Committee, and the South West Development Commission's Economic Advisory Committee;

. Vera Guinness, whose community service over the last 22 years includes work with the Red Cross Blood Bank, the Bunbury Tourist Bureau, the Bunbury Voluntary Community Group (now Milligan House), the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Bunbury branch of the Alcohol and Drug Authority, the Bunbury Citizens' Advice Bureau, and the Bunbury Netball Association;

and - . Max Brett, a business adviser and former manager of the Commonwealth Bank and financial adviser to the Small Business Development Corporation and the Bunbury Business Enterprise Centre.

Mr Nicholls said that the method of appointing the Bunbury Water Board had been changed to enable people to serve on it without first having to become councillors of the City of Bunbury.

He said the range of qualifications and experience of the members of the board would enable it to serve Bunbury well in a changing environment for the provision of essential services.

The Minister commended the out-going members of the board and emphasised that the changes he had introduced were not a reflection on the work done by board members in recent years.

All current members who were not reappointed were city councillors and would continue to serve the community in that role.
