Youth Minister Mike Board has hailed the Armadale Youth Advisory Council (YAC) as one of the most successful in the metropolitan area.
Mr Board paid the compliment while presenting YAC members with their official membership badges and certificates at a special function at the City of Armadale yesterday afternoon.
"There's no doubt that the Armadale YAC is proving to be an inspiring example of how this network of young people is operating so successfully across the State," he said.
"The Armadale group was one of the first YACs established and was very active at the YAC Attack State conference in December. The group impressed other young people with its commitment and enthusiastic approach."
The Minister also praised the work of the Armadale YAC co-ordinator Jay Martin, saying her initiative and drive was a major reason for the success of the group.
He said the Armadale YAC had already achieved a number of significant successes, including:

      • providing volunteers to assist with a focus group on young driver training;
      • organising a series of all ages concerts which were very successful;
      • contributing valuable input into the development of two skating facilities;
      • Mr Board said there were now 64 YACs operating across the State and the Office of Youth Affairs had plans for 80 by the end of the year; and -
      • the Minister said the success of early YACs like Armadale, was playing a significant role in fostering the development of further groups across Western Australia.
