10/12/98

Arts Minister Peter Foss today announced State Government investments in the arts totalling $512,461.

The 60 investments were recommended by three peer assessment panels for ArtsWA, for a range of Western Australian metropolitan and regional arts activities and events.

The list included several national organisations in whom investments were made to enable them to involve WA artists in their programs.

"The investments points to the growing diversity and excellence of arts practice in WA," Mr Foss said.

"It is also pleasing to see that projects occurring outside of the metropolitan area continue to receive strong support. Centres such as Albany, Kalgoorlie, Broome, Manjimup and the wheatbelt have all had funds awarded for projects that will engage these communities in a very direct way.

"The Government invests in the arts because the arts add meaning and value to the lives of countless Western Australians, and I believe this latest round of investments in arts projects reflects both the range and quality of the arts and the interest in the arts by the people of WA."
