Police Minister John Day has been assured by the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission that the commission has adequate resources and the necessary powers to investigate alleged corruption within the Western Australian Police Service.

Mr Day said the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Hon John Wickham QC, had confirmed that the commission was investigating certain allegations of corruption within the Police Service.

"Mr Wickham also assured me that the Anti-Corruption Commission will advise the Government if any further actions are needed, including the appointment of a special investigator or the need for a Royal Commission," he said.

"The State Government has made the commitment to assist the Anti-Corruption Commission in any way possible with their investigations - be it resources or whatever they need to get the job done."

Mr Day said the investigation must be left to those charged with the responsibility and the processes involved allowed to be progressed in a fair and equitable manner.
