The City of Gosnells anti-graffiti campaign is set to benefit from the combined efforts of prisoners and offenders on community-based work orders, Attorney General Peter Foss announced today (Friday, March 31).

Mr Foss today handed over two custom-built trailers, made by prisoners at Casuarina Prison, for use in a local anti-graffiti campaign.
"These two four-wheel trailers have been specially designed to store and transport machinery and equipment needed to eradicate graffiti in the Gosnells areas," he said.
"Maddington Community-Based Services and the City of Gosnells began working together on the anti-graffiti campaign in June last year.
"Since then, 101 long-term offenders on community work orders have worked alongside City of Gosnells and Ministry of Justice staff at a number of parks and recreation areas.
"They have used 150 10-litre cans of anti-graffiti paint, but with the trailers and new equipment, the area of graffiti being painted out is likely to double."
Mr Foss said industries staff at Casuarina Prison were consulted for prices and assistance with manufacturing the two four-wheel trailers.
"The Ministry funded the cost of materials for the two trailers which were constructed by prisoners," he said.
"The trailer accessories were also purchased by the Ministry from local businesses within the City of Gosnells area.
"Casuarina Prison's metal shop has produced trailers to the highest standard and at exceptional cost saving benefit to the community.
"The total cost was $8,000, but without input from the prison, that figure would have been about $15,000."
The Minister said the work by offenders went some way to repaying the community for the harm they caused through their offending behaviour.
"A big number of offenders have expressed their willingness to further develop the skills that they have learnt as a result of their community work obligations," he said.
