Arts Minister Mike Board has announced the appointment of well-known children's author Glyn Parry to the Library Board of Western Australia for a four-year term.
Mr Board said Mr Parry, a national award winning writer, was widely respected within the WA literary community and much sought after for speaking engagements at literary festivals and workshops throughout Australia.
His book 'Radical Take-offs' was the winner of the 1995 Premier's Prize and 'Scooterboy' won the Dymocks Writing for Young Adults Award last year. In addition, many of his books have been commended in the Children's Book Council awards.
Before becoming a full-time writer, Mr Parry was a teacher and librarian. His community work includes Community Leader with the WA Drug Abuse Strategy Office and the 2000-2001 Youth Panel of the Australia Council for the Arts.
"Mr Parry brings a wealth of practical experience to the board with his teaching expertise, knowledge of how to promote writing as a medium and his understanding of the value of libraries to young people," Mr Board said.
