Award-winning inventor commended on 'Just Bin' product

Like many people, Premier Richard Court has grappled with his 'big green' bin while taking the rubbish out - which is why an invention by a Perth inventor has captured the Premier's imagination.
Kalamunda design engineer Matthew Whyte has developed his product 'Just Bin' to give people the option of a 'hands free' bin opener.
Matthew developed the idea after watching the difficulties being experienced by people disposing of their litter at a major sporting event.
His invention uses a foot pedal and cable system to open the bin. It is made of UV-resistant plastic and when fitted does not interfere with automatic bin collection.
Mr Court said Matthew's ingenuity had been recognised with the Kalamunda inventor being named as Inventor of the Year at the Wonderful World of Innovations Expo at the Burswood Dome.
"Matthew has developed a relatively simple product that provides a solution to one of life's little problems - staggering to the bin with an armful of rubbish and being unable to open it without putting the load down," the Premier said.
"Matthew's invention is yet another example of the innovation that exists in Western Australia.
"The list of inventions and innovations by Western Australians is long and varied - ranging from the orbital engine, the pressure garments for burns victims and neurological splints developed by WA company Second Skin, to the Pink Lady apple."
"Inventors play a vital role in our society.
"Not only do their inspirations provide new products and processes for our benefit, but they also provide an inspiration for the rest of us to work smarter and be innovative in our everyday activities."
