Environment Minister Cheryl Edwardes today announced that the Bold Park draft Environmental Management Plan 2000 - 2005 was now available for public review.
Mrs Edwardes said the Bold Park plan had involved considerable input and discussion over a 10-month period with a wide range of stakeholders and the local community.
"The 43ha Bold Park is one of the largest urban bushland remnants on the Swan Coastal Plain," she said.
"The hilly terrain supports a wide variety of ecosystems including coastal heaths, shrublands, Banksia and Tuart woodlands, and the Camel Lake dampland associated with the adjoining Perry Lakes.
"As urban development continues along the coastal corridor of the Perth Metropolitan Region, areas like Bold Park play an increasingly vital role in the conservation of regional biological diversity, and the provision of a bushland experience to enhance the quality of life of people within an urban environment.
"Situated in the suburbs of City Beach, Floreat and Mt Claremont, the Park was created into an A Class Reserve in August 1998 in recognition of its high conservation, recreation, education, landform and scientific values."
"At this time management responsibility was transferred to the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority from the Town of Cambridge.
"Conditions in the Minister for the Environment's Statement No. 635 (Land Use Strategy for Bold Park and Environs) required the development of an Environmental Management Plan for Bold Park.
"The plan focuses on issues of significance to the environmental management of Bold Park such as the conservation of biodiversity, ecological restoration, recreational management, fire control, environmental education, urban bushland research and community involvement."
Also available for review is the Town of Cambridge draft Environmental Management Plan for Perry Lakes, and the Department of Defence draft Environmental Management Plan for Campbell Barracks.
Mrs Edwardes said the simultaneous development of draft Environmental Management Plans for adjacent lands by three levels of Government - local, State and Federal - was considered to be a first for Western Australia.
"This process provided scope for the identification and assessment of boundary and regional issues associated with the three areas in a broader metropolitan context," she said.
