11/4/97
Newman Senior High School will receive a $1 million upgrade over two years as part of the Education Department's $103 million capital works program announced in the 1997/98 State budget.
$300 000 has been allocated in 1997/98, with the balance being provided in 1998/99.
Also included in the budget is $6 million to fund the new primary school in Port Hedland, which will replace the Port Hedland and Cooke Point Primary Schools. The new school is expected to open in the 1998 school year.
Education Minister Colin Barnett said included in the overall education budget was more than $47 million for new works, and $56 million for works in progress.
Major building programs would begin in 27 Western Australian schools, with works being completed in a further 38.
Many more schools were included in special programs to provide new facilities such as library resource centres, administration upgrades, covered assembly areas and toilet replacements.
