Bushcare program grant - South West Environment Centre
30/9/98
The South-West Environment Centre has received $12,500 to help with the development of a strategic plan for Bunbury's open space and bushland.
Environment Minister Cheryl Edwardes said the grant is from the Natural Heritage Trust's Bushcare program for urban bushland management projects.
Mrs Edwardes said the fund aimed to help community groups provide valuable information on the conservation and education values of remnant vegetation in urban areas.
The project, which was being carried out in co-operation with the Bunbury City Council, would provide the cornerstone for future management of native vegetation in the Bunbury region.
"This funding recognises the great work being undertaken by the SWEC in urban bushland management," the Minister said.
Mrs Edwardes said 12 projects had been funded under Bushcare in the latest round of grants. A further three projects would be funded in the near future.
"The Natural Heritage Trust funding will assist with the valuable work being undertaken by community groups and help create a greater awareness of the value of our urban bushlands to our cities and towns," she said.
