Busselton Justice Complex a step closer with appointment of architects
12/11/98
The realisation of the Busselton Justice Complex has moved a step closer with the appointment of architects Sandover, Pinder and Hoffman Architecture
Attorney General Peter Foss said the Justice Complex, estimated to cost $3.25 million, would be a major asset to the area.
"It will be one of the most modern justice complexes in the country and is part of the State Government's commitment to providing new and improved Justice Centres around the State," Mr Foss said.
The 1,500sqm Busselton complex will be built on a site bounded by Stanley Street, Adelaide Street and Camilleri Street.
It will include a magistrate's court, jury court, courts registry and administration, associated court facilities, witness facilities, chambers, detention areas and offices for community-based services.
"Video conferencing facilities for giving of evidence are proving a great success and will be a standard feature at Busselton," Mr Foss said.
"For economies of scale, greater security and better management of people appearing before the courts, the justice complex will be co-located with the Busselton Police Station."
The justice complex and police station will have separate external identities but share a common lock-up and be built as one building by one project team.
The anticipated completion date is December 2000.
