Children at St Joseph's School, Albany, awarded for artwork
November 13, 1998
Fisheries Minister Monty House met children from St Joseph's School today and presented them with a book and a framed print on the marine environment in appreciation of their artistic efforts.
"I am delighted to be able to meet the children and congratulate them on their colourful and creative artwork," Mr House said.
"Young people and their attitudes to the marine environment are a key to keeping Western Australia's waters and fish stocks in a pristine condition for future generations to enjoy."
Year six children, working with local artist Karen Drummond and St Joseph's teacher Paul Romeo, produced the artwork on a fish habitat theme and will be on display in the Fisheries WA Albany office.
The papier mache artwork created by year six students from St Joseph's is the result of a community awareness initiative by Fisheries WA Albany regional manager, Tony Cappelluti and Karen Drummond.
"The high standard of the students' work illustrates the variety of colours, shapes and sizes," Mr House said.
"In the marine environment, the work is outstanding.
"Many members of the community have visited the office just to see the work and this is a credit to the students."
