Education Minister Colin Barnett has congratulated City Beach Senior High School on 30 years of excellent service to its community.

In officially recognising the school's anniversary at the weekend, Mr Barnett said that the majority of its students had come from feeder primary schools in Wembley, Floreat, Kapinara, Lake Monger, Churchlands, Wembley Downs and City Beach.

"City Beach has provided thousands of young Western Australians with an excellent education," the Minister said.

"Many City Beach students have rewarded the community with important contributions in the fields of sport, academia and industry."

Mr Barnett said the school had produced students such as cricketer Kim Hughes, diver Vyninka Arlow, athlete James Miller, footballer Danny Southern, Commonwealth Games gold medallists Sally Wills and Rebecca Stoyel and Olympic gymnast Jenny Smith.

"In 1997, the school will examine the extent to which students understand the natural environment," he said.

"I am pleased to see this new priority will take advantage of the wonderful location of the school close to Bold Park and the coast.

"The school has enjoyed great support from its community and this has greatly enhanced the learning experiences available to students.

"I hope this strong interest in school education in this district will continue for many years to come."
