Coalition's progressive approach in primary industry policy welcomed

Primary Industry Minister Monty House has welcomed the progressive approach taken by the Coalition in its Primary Industry Policy 'Reviving the Heartland'.
Mr House said the policy proved the Coalition had listened closely to the needs of farmers in Western Australia.
Under the Coalition policy, farmers could claim a 34 per cent tax credit or rebate if they wish, instead of the 100 per cent tax deductibility for landcare works.
"The introduction of taxation credits for landcare work by farmers on low or negative incomes is central to the success of the whole landcare effort and is a big step forward to encourage the implementation of on-the-ground landcare programs," Mr House said.
"The proposed labour market reforms are particularly important to improve the competitiveness of Australia's industries on the world stage.
"While we are becoming quite efficient with our production of primary products, reforms and efficiencies still need to be introduced to the processing and handling sectors.
"A reduction in Australian Quarantine Inspection Service inspection costs is long overdue, as these have been a hindrance to exporters, especially in the meat processing industry."
Mr House also welcomed moves to increase the effectiveness of anti-dumping procedures as well as improving quarantine labelling and health standards of imported goods.
He said the proposed policies on farm forestry were in keeping with the recently released recommendations of the WA Farm Forestry Taskforce.
