Lands Minister Graham Kierath has told LandCorp and the property managers of the Joondalup Lakeside Shopping City to leave no stone unturned to secure a major department store chain at the shopping centre.

"Joondalup Lakeside Shopping City is a vital and integral part of Joondalup City and its development as Perth's northern city centre," Mr Kierath said.

"The success of Joondalup is inextricably linked to the success of Lakeside Shopping City.

"I have written to the chairman of the Western Australian Land Authority, which controls LandCorp, the major stakeholder in the development of Joondalup city, and Armstrong Jones Management, urging them to ensure Lakeside Shopping City and Joondalup's success by signing a major department store chain to the shopping centre.

"I have told them that the State Government's full support is behind the development of Joondalup City."

Mr Kierath said he was sure he would hear from LandCorp or Armstrong Jones Management about the successful signing of a major chain store in the near future.

He said the northern suburbs were developing rapidly and Whitfords City Shopping Centre was in advanced negotiations with David Jones as part of their expansion plans.

Joondalup Lakeside Shopping City had also announced plans to expand to 54,000 sq m, making it one of the biggest in the metropolitan area, a major department store, 90 additional specialty shops, six cinemas and a second discount department store.

Long-term plans for the Lakeside Shopping City would see it expand to more than 100,000 sq m, bigger than Morley's Galleria Shopping Centre.
