Community Advisory Committee set up for Jandakot Botanic Regional Park
18/2/99
A Community Advisory Committee has been established for the Jandakot Botanic Regional Park.
The committee is part of the State Government's policy to ensure that the community is involved in creating and managing regional parks in the metropolitan area.
Environment Minister Cheryl Edwardes said the committee's main task would be to assist in identifying major issues and preparing a future direction for the park.
Mrs Edwardes said community involvement would raise the public's level of awareness and appreciation of the park and reflected the Government's commitment to managing regional parks in partnership with local people and organisations.
Members of the committee had been drawn from a broad spectrum of park users and community interest groups including local government, volunteers, conservation and recreation groups and local business.
"Regional parks are parks for the people," the Minister said.
"This is why the committee members are people with practical experience and knowledge of local issues, especially of the role the park will play in enhancing the lifestyle and conservation values of the region."
Jandakot Botanic Committee consists of Jim Connolly, David James, John Hankinson, Carol MacPherson, Ray Froend and Ailsa Scade.
Representatives from the City Councils for Canning, Gosnells, Cockburn, Armadale and Kwinana, and the Water and Rivers Commission, CALM and the Serpentine - Jarrahdale Shire Council also will be on the committee.
Jandakot Botanic is one of eight regional parks that are being set up in the Perth metropolitan area. Others are Herdsman Lake, Woodman Point, Rockingham Lakes, Yellagonga, Beeliar, Canning River and Darling Range.
