Community relations grant for Police and Citizens' Youth Club Federation
31/8/94
Police Minister Bob Wiese today presented the Federation of Western Australian Police and Citizens' Youth Clubs with a $2,000 community relations grant from the Office of Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs.
The grant is part of more than $33,000 which has been made available by the State Government for community groups which are undertaking projects aimed at promoting harmonious relationships between different ethnic groups.
Mr Wiese said the grant would be used to organise a special multicultural residential camp in October.
About 15 families from various ethnic backgrounds will participate in the two-day camp at Mornington where they will participate in a number of team-building exercises aimed at sharing different cultural experiences.
"It is pleasing to see that community groups are developing culturally sensitive projects aimed at overcoming many of the problems people from various ethnic backgrounds face in our society," Mr Wiese said.
"Projects of this type further demonstrate the growing awareness of the many ways the community can meet the challenges of living in a multicultural society."
Mr Wiese congratulated the PCYC on the initiative as well as the Police Department's Police Plate Fund, which has also contributed $2,500 towards the camp.
