The State Government today outlined the construction timetable for an important new road linking the Two Rocks township with Wanneroo Road.

Planning Minister Richard Lewis said construction work would begin in January and the new road was expected to be completed by June, 1997.

Mr Lewis said the link road, which would have great benefits for the local community, businesses in the area and the tourism industry, followed the signing of an historic memorandum of understanding between the State Government and the major landowners Yanchep Sun City.

"Demonstrating its strong commitment to the development of Yanchep-Two Rocks, in September the State Government finalised detailed land use plans to guide future growth of the area," he said.

"The plan sets aside large areas of open space, land for future transport needs and promotes employment and business opportunities."

Mr Lewis said the new link road provided better access to the communities of Yanchep and Two Rocks.

The single road connection via Yanchep Beach Road was inadequate.

"The construction of the link road will promote tourism and business by creating a scenic drive linking Yanchep National Park and the Yanchep-Two Rocks coastline in a continuous loop," the Minister said.

"The new road also increases access to the coast for people in surrounding areas and provides improved safety for residents as there is now an alternative route out of the area."
