Family and Children's Services has agreed to continue to fund the CLAN (Community Link and Networking) Association until mid-1998.

This means the association will be able to make a valuable long-term contribution that will benefit the community.

Family and Children's Services Minister Cheryl Edwardes announced today that the department had signed an agreement with the service which guaranteed it $45,369 a year until June 30, 1998.

"CLAN organisations in Armadale, Mandurah, Midland, Mirrabooka and Queen's Park offer valuable support and referrals to families, especially to those who are isolated and vulnerable," Mrs Edwardes said.

"Families with children under 12 can talk to trained volunteers about being a parent and what that means. They can also obtain information and develop knowledge and skills that will help create a positive family atmosphere.

"To provide these services efficiently, the organisations need resources, information and assistance in planning, training and other areas.

"The CLAN Association provides all of this to CLAN organisations to help them provide a broad range of family and community support."

Mrs Edwardes said she believed the agreement reflected a continuing good relationship which would help strengthen families and benefit the community.
