Contract awarded for dredging Carnarvon Facine

Transport Minister Eric Charlton today announced the awarding of a contract for the dredging of the Carnarvon Facine.

Mr Charlton said Dredgemasters WA Pty Ltd had submitted the lowest tender of $2.38 million and had been awarded the contract.

"The Carnarvon community is eager that the project will proceed and the Government is pleased to announce the go-ahead," Mr Charlton said.

The Minister said verbal advice had been received from representatives of Aboriginal groups at Carnarvon that a Native Title claim would not be lodged.

"Negotiations will commence on an agreement to provide employment and training opportunities for Aborigines on projects making up the Fascine development and their involvement is welcomed," he said.
