Contract for supplying and installing road signs in metro area
7/11/95
Transport Minister Eric Charlton announced today that a Main Roads contract for the supply and installation of nearly 5,000 road signs in the Perth metropolitan area had been awarded to Jason Signmakers Pty Ltd.
Mr Charlton said the $1,794,976 contract was for the replacement of about 300 large directional road signs with new signs incorporating a highly reflective background and anti-graffiti coating.
"The signs will be installed along major metropolitan routes and the contract will include the replacement of small signs located at 612 signalised intersections and 132 railway crossings," the Minister said.
He said road signs had a 'use-by' date of between seven and 15 years, depending on the materials used. Replacement was necessary to maintain a high level of night-time visibility, especially during wet weather.
"The changeover from a non-reflective background to a highly reflective background for the large directional signs will also help visibility for road users," Mr Charlton said.
The contract will take about nine months with work starting in mid-November.
